Day 2: Full Day Open Vehicle Safari in the Kruger National Park

With the sun just cresting the horizon, and the aroma of coffee encouraging you as you climb aboard the safari vehicle, we leave the lodge and take the short drive to the Kruger National Park for your first morning safari.

The early morning start will treat you to some of the most incredible sightings and your guide will look for fresh wildlife tracks in the dirt alongside the road, as we search for predators and plains game.

We drive through the Southern Kruger for about 3 hours before we stop at a picnic spot or rest camp to stretch our legs and have breakfast (today, breakfast is a pack from the lodge).

After the break, we venture back into the park, exploring the bush as we try to see as much wildlife as we can.

To maximise your game viewing, we’ll visit rivers and water holes, both known for attracting animals, and we’ll take roads surrounded by open bushveld, where large populations of impala, kudu, buffalo, zebra and much more can be seen.

At lunchtime, we’ll stop at a rest camp. Lunch will be one your account. Rest camps are known for their freshly prepared meals and snacks, and while here you can also grab a beer and do some curio shopping.

After lunch, we’ll start making our way back to the lodge, arriving between 15:30 and 16:00 pm. The rest of the afternoon can be spent at your leisure, swimming, taking a walk, or just relaxing in your room, before dinner.

Frequently Asked Questions

3 Day Best of Kruger Classic Safari

What can I expect to see on a 3-day Kruger safari?

A 3-day itinerary will give you enough time to explore multiple regions of the park, giving you a strong chance of seeing the Big Five, along with giraffe, zebra, antelope, hippo, birdlife, and more. Sightings will vary with the seasons and the natural movement and migrations of wildlife.

How much time will we spend on game drives on a 3-day Kruger Park safari?

Most 3-day Kruger safaris include a combination of full-day and half-day drives, typically giving you 15–20 hours on safari. Many packages also include a night drive, giving you the unique chance to spot nocturnal wildlife.

Is a 3-day safari enough time to experience the Kruger?

Yes, 3 days is enough for travellers with limited time. You’ll experience several game drives across different habitats, increasing your chances of notable sightings. For deeper exploration, longer safaris are recommended, but 3 days will still give you an unforgettable introduction to the Kruger.

What should I pack for a 3-day Kruger Park safari?

You should pack light, breathable clothing in neutral colours, a warm layer for early mornings, sunscreen, a hat, comfortable shoes, insect repellent, and your camera or binoculars. Most lodges provide towels and basic amenities, so you don’t need to overpack.

What type of accommodation is included?

Accommodation depends on the package but it usually includes en-suite safari lodges or bungalows with modern comforts such as air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, and on-site dining. Some tours use rest camps inside the park, while others, like this one, stay in quality lodges just outside the gates.
