What to Expect

Step away from the everyday and spend some time deep in the African bush. This 3-day safari is the perfect adventure for those short on time but eager to experience the wilder side of South Africa. Carefully crafted for maximum sightings and plenty of relaxation, the tour takes you deep into Balule Private Game Reserve, part of the greater Kruger ecosystem and home to Africa’s legendary Big Five.

You’ll enjoy morning and evening game drives led by experienced rangers, with prime opportunities to encounter elephants, lions, rhinos, leopards, and buffalo up close.

Your base for this experience is the wild and unfenced Ndzuti Bush Camp, set within the Balule Nature Reserve, which shares open borders with the Kruger National Park. It’s a place where the wildlife is free to walk where they please, and they often visit the nearby camp waterhole, giving guests a real front row seat to the most spectacular sightings.

With golden sunrises, starlit evenings around the campfire, and the soothing sounds of nature outside your canvas tent, this is a genuine safari experience that is both rustic and made to be ultra comfortable.

80% of Kurt Safari guests spot the Big 5 during this 3-day adventure!

Day 1: Journey from Johannesburg & Sunset Safari

(Lunch & Dinner Included)

Your safari begins with an early start as we collect guests from lodges and hotels located within 5 km of OR Tambo International Airport between 6:30 and 6:45 am. Pickups continue at the airport’s shuttle and bus terminal from 6:45 to 7:00 am, with our scheduled departure at 7:15 am sharp.

Prefer to fly in? You can also meet us at Eastgate Airport in Hoedspruit, where a Kurt Safari guide will greet you with no extra cost involved.

To ensure a smooth start, please confirm your pickup location at least one day before arrival by emailing online@kurtsafari.com.

Once everyone is on board, we’ll travel together to Hazyview, arriving at around midday.

After check-in, you’ll have time to unwind, enjoy a light lunch, and perhaps cool off with a swim or stretch your legs along the camp’s tranquil walking paths.

At 16:00, your first adventure will begin with a sunset game drive. As the sun dips and the heat fades, wildlife activity picks up, giving guests the ideal conditions for sightings.

Winter guests will enjoy longer twilight drives, while summer guests are treated to the soft golden glow of an African evening.

You’ll return to the lodge at around 20:00, where a delicious dinner and your first night in the bush will be waiting.

Day 2: Sunrise Safari & Afternoon/Night Game Drive

(Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Included)

Few experiences can compare to setting out into the bush just before sunrise. As the first light touches the bush, predators are often still active, and herbivores are beginning their day with a slow walk to a waterhole or to have a breakfast nibble.

Our morning game drive is one of the best for sightings, and no two drives are ever the same. With over 148 mammal species and 500+ bird species, each safari brings something new. Guides will explore different areas of the Kruger National Park, ensuring that you enjoy fresh experiences throughout your stay.

We return to the camp at around mid-morning for a hearty breakfast, followed by some relaxing downtime. During this time, you can laze poolside, find shade under a tree with a good book, or explore the unfenced camp at your leisure. A light lunch will be served before you head out once again.

At 16:00, you’ll climb back into the open safari vehicle for your afternoon and evening drive. As the landscape shifts under the amber tones of sunset, and the heat starts to cool off, the wildlife once again becomes active.

In winter, this drive extends into early evening, while in summer, it’s filled with pastel skies, occasional thunderstorms, and extended daylight.

By 20:00, you’ll return to camp for a warm meal, a crackling fire, and a night under the stars in the African wilderness.

Day 3: Final Morning Safari & Return to Johannesburg

(Breakfast Included; Lunch at Own Cost)

On your final day, we’ll head out for one last early morning game drive, your final opportunity to catch a glimpse of the animals you’ve yet to see. Whether it’s a big cat lounging in the grass or a herd of elephants on the move, this drive is just as exciting as the first.

After the safari, you’ll return to camp for a delicious breakfast, after which you’ll pack up, freshen up, and say goodbye to your guide and this special corner of Africa you’ve called home.

From the camp, you’ll be transferred to Hoedspruit, where you’ll connect to your return shuttle back to Johannesburg.

The tour concludes at OR Tambo International Airport or at a nearby lodge within 5 km of the airport, with arrival expected between 18:00 and 19:00. If you are flying out, please book flights no earlier than 21:00 (domestic) or 20:00 (international) to allow for enough travel time.
