Spending a full day in the beautiful Kruger National Park is the stuff the best memories are made of. Although it might not seem like enough time to see much, a day spent traversing the wildlife abundant Southern Kruger, with its riverine forests, bushy plains, and plentiful rivers and waterholes, all of which are wildlife magnets, will give you plenty of spectacular sightings, and if luck is really on your side, you might just catch sight of a couple of the Big 5 animals.

Morning

To make the most of your full day in the Kruger National Park, this safari departs bright and early, well before the sun is completely up.

Guests are picked up from lodges in and around Hazyview (lodges within a 5 km radius). Those staying further afield can join the group at Perry’s Bridge Trading Post & Tourism Centre, or meet the guide directly at Numbi Gate or Phabeni Gate.

The early morning hours are among the most rewarding for wildlife sightings in the Kruger National Park, especially in the Southern Regions, where we’ll be going.

As the sun rises and the air remains cool, predators such as lions, wild dogs, hyenas, and leopards are far more active, while other animals also appear, making the most of the cool temperatures.

We’ll spend the first part of the morning exploring routes known for being wildlife abundant, before stopping at a rest camp or picnic spot for breakfast.

Be sure to pack essentials like sunscreen, a hat, comfortable walking shoes, and sunglasses, no matter the time of year you’re travelling in.

If you are having a winter full day Kruger Safari then wear warm layers while summer guests should bring along a lightweight rain jacket.

Afternoon

We’ll stop for a relaxed lunch at around 12:00 pm, before we drive deeper into the Southern Kruger, following the movement of wildlife as the day quickly warms up.

We continue the drive until approximately 16:00 pm, after which guests are returned to their lodges or to Perry’s Bridge, bringing your full day in the Kruger to a close.

Frequently Asked Questions

Private Vehicle Full Day Safaris

Can you do a day safari in South Africa?

Yes, day safaris are a fantastic and accessible way to enjoy South Africa’s wildlife. A full-day Kruger safari is ideal for visitors wanting a complete wildlife experience without committing to an overnight stay.

Is one day enough for the Kruger National Park?

A single day can give you a highly rewarding introduction to the Kruger, especially if you are travelling in the south, where wildlife densities are among the highest in the park. A guided 6–7 hour safari gives you more than enough time to encounter a variety of species in the early morning and afternoon.

What is included in a full day Kruger Park safari?

Your safari includes conservation fees, mineral water, a pre-packed lunch, and round-trip transfers from accommodation within 5 km of Hazyview. You’ll spend the day exploring the park in an open 4×4 vehicle with an experienced guide.

What is the best time of year to take a Kruger Park day safari?

The dry months from May to September will give you the most reliable wildlife viewing, thanks to thinner vegetation and animals gathering around water sources. April–May and September–October are also excellent months to visit due to moderate temperatures and very little rain.

Can solo travellers join this full day safari?

A minimum of two people is required, and departures operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
