Day 2: Full Day Open Vehicle Safari in the Kruger National Park

We depart from the lodge well before the sun is fully up and make our way to the Kruger National Park for your first morning safari.

Early mornings are among the most rewarding times to be in the bush, and your guide will be scanning the roadside sand for fresh tracks as we search for predators, grazers, and anything else that might come across our path.

We’ll explore the wildlife-rich southern region of the Kruger for about three hours before stopping at a rest camp or picnic site to stretch your legs and enjoy a packed breakfast from the lodge.

After the short break, we head back into the park, following river loops, stopping at waterholes, and scanning the open bushveld, all prime habitats for elephants, buffalo, zebra, kudu, impala, and other iconic species.

Around midday, we stop at a rest camp for lunch (for your own account). These camps have tasty meals and cold drinks, and while in the camp, you’ll have a chance to browse the curio shops for souvenirs.

After lunch, we begin our relaxed journey back to the lodge, arriving between 15:30 and 16:00 pm. The remainder of the afternoon is yours to enjoy and you can take a swim, enjoy a stroll, or simply rest in your room before dinner is served.

Day 3: Morning Safari and Transfer back to Johannesburg

Your final morning in the bush begins before sunrise as we set out for one last safari.

During the last few hours of your time in the Kruger, your guide will concentrate on tracking the wildlife we may have missed during the previous days, particularly big cats like lion and leopard, which are most active in the early morning light.

After a few hours on the dusty road, we’ll stop at a rest camp or picnic site to enjoy another packed breakfast from the lodge.

We return to the lodge around 12:00 pm, giving you a moment to freshen up and gather your belongings before the shuttle departs for Johannesburg.

After a scenic drive, we reach the city between 17:00 and 18:00 pm, where you’ll be dropped off at either the airport shuttle terminal or accommodation located within a 5 km radius of OR Tambo International Airport.

Frequently Asked Questions

3 Day Best of Kruger Luxury Safari

What makes a 3 Day Luxury Kruger Safari different from a standard safari?

A luxury safari includes high-end accommodation, personalised service, gourmet dining, and exclusive touches such as smaller vehicle groups, and expert guides. You’ll enjoy the same incredible wildlife viewing but with a far more refined level of comfort and attention.

What type of accommodation is included in a luxury Kruger safari?

Luxury packages typically feature 4 star lodges or boutique safari camps with spacious suites, premium linens, air-conditioning, private patios or decks, and upscale amenities. Many luxury lodges also have swimming pools, spa treatments, fine dining, and astounding views of surrounding bush or riverbeds.

How much time will I spend on game drives during a 3-day luxury itinerary?

Most luxury 3-day safaris include two game drives per day; a sunrise safari and a late afternoon/evening drive. Combined with your arrival and departure day activities, you’ll enjoy up to or even more than 12–16 hours of dedicated wildlife viewing.

Is a 3-day luxury safari enough time to see the Big Five?

Yes. While wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, a 3-day luxury safari will give you enough time to enjoy a few Big Five viewing opportunities. With experienced guides, access to rich wildlife regions, and multiple game drives, your chances of spotting iconic animals are significantly enhanced.

What should I pack for a luxury Kruger safari?

Pack lightweight neutral clothing, a warm layer for early mornings, comfortable shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, and your camera. While luxury lodges provide premium toiletries, towels, and amenities, a small daypack and binoculars can enhance your experience. Most lodges also have laundry services for added convenience.
