Designed for the discerning adventurer, this electrifying 4-day safari journey plunges you into the heart of the Kruger National Park. With a once in a lifetime evening game drive followed by two full days inside the park, you’ll have the prime opportunity to track the famous Big 5 and encounter a wide variety of other African wildlife. Your restful base is the beautiful Umbhaba Eco Lodge, an oasis of 4-star comfort in Hazyview, located just a convenient 15-minute drive from the park gates.
After the scenic drive from the busy city into the quiet town of Hazyview, you’ll spend the afternoon settling into your room, familiarising yourself with the lodge and grounds, and there’s time to enjoy a light lunch before we head out on your first game drive.
At around 15:45 pm you’ll be collected from the lodge in a comfortable safari vehicle.
As the shadows lengthen, the bush comes alive as the park’s nocturnal animals begin to come out. Along with hearing their nightly calls, if you’re lucky, you’ll also see eyes glinting in the dusk light.
Those who travel during the winter will be treated to a longer night time game drive while those who travel in summer will see the most spectacular sunsets.
At around 20:00 pm you’ll return to the lodge, feeling that unmistakable safari buzz, where a warm dinner is waiting.

As the sun just barely breaks over the horizon and the scent of strong coffee nudges you awake, you’ll climb into the safari vehicle again, this time for the first of your full-day game drive.
These early hours are the best time for a safari, because it’s when predators are on the move, a time when the park is wonderfully unpredictable.
Your guide will take you on routes through the Southern Kruger, an area they know like the back of their hands.
Sightings in the Kruger almost always involve a touch of luck, but this part of the park rarely stays quiet for long. Something, whether an elephant herd, a hyena pack, or a sudden burst of birdlife, always comes into view.
After a few hours of exploring, you’ll stop for breakfast, which will be a takeaway pack from the lodge. It’s a good time to walk around, stretching your legs, grab a fresh coffee, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the camp, before you get back on the road.
The drive then threads through forest thicket, riverbanks that are etched with wildlife tracks, watering holes that are almost always busy with life, and broad grassy plains that bake in the sun.
We then head to a rest camp for lunch, where you can choose from a range of meals, duck into a curio shop, or cool off with something cold to drink.
Afterwards the safari continues as you slowly head back toward the lodge, catching sight of whatever might surprise you along the way.
By mid-afternoon you’re back at the lodge, where you can swim and relax before dinner closes a wild and generous day in the Kruger.

Breakfast & Dinner (lunch not included)
The day kicks off with another crisp, early morning.
You’ll climb into the vehicle and your guide will set off along routes known for their lively sightings. The roads they choose are based on their experience, instinct, and the countless mornings they’ve spent over the years reading tracks in the dust.
After a few hours of exploring, you’ll pause at a rest camp or picnic spot. Breakfast will be a simple but satisfying lodge packed meal and you can buy coffee or tea from the camp shop.
Your guide will then take you into a completely new section of the Kruger, and because the park is huge, fresh scenery and new wildlife will cross your path at every turn.
By midday you’ll reach a rest camp for lunch, and with plenty of meal options to choose from and a little time to browse for souvenirs, you’ll be able to rest a while before rolling out again.
The afternoon brings an easy, unhurried drive back toward the lodge, getting you there between 15:30 and 16:00 pm.
From then on, the day belongs to you, and you can cool off in the pool, watch the sky change with a sundowner in hand, and settle in for another good dinner.

There’s time for one more safari, and this final game drive carries that irresistible sense of “just maybe.”
The morning air is cool, the light is soft, and we set out with a mission and that is to find the creatures that have stayed just out of reach until now.
Breakfast will be in the park, surrounded by the sounds and movement of the Kruger waking up.
Then we continue the search, weaving slowly back toward the lodge through whatever surprises the bush decides to give us on your last round.
Around midday you’ll return to the lodge, with enough time to get ready for your drive back to Johannesburg. You’ll arrive in the city between 17:00 pm and 18:00 pm.
