What to Expect

Your day begins with a leisurely morning pickup from your accommodation in Cape Town or Stellenbosch, as you leave the city behind and head into the beautiful Cape Winelands.

Rolling vineyards and dramatic mountain backdrops set the tone for a day filled with flavour, history, and stunning scenery.

The first stop is the much-loved Fairview Wine and Cheese Estate, known not only for its award-winning wines but also for its playful goats and artisanal products, some of which can only be found here.

At Fairview, you’ll have a guided tasting of creamy cheeses, elegant wines, and cold-pressed olive oils, all produced right here on the estate. With those postcard-perfect sweeping views and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, Fairview is a delightful start to your wine country experience.

From there, you’ll travel to the storybook village of Franschhoek, where French heritage and culinary artistry collide in the most spectacular fashion.

Here, you’ll climb aboard the iconic Franschhoek Wine Tram, a vintage-style, open-air tram that glides slowly through the vineyards, giving travellers a short but magical ride through the valley.

Depending on the route for the day, you’ll stop next at either Rickety Bridge or Plaisir Wine Estate, where you’ll enjoy a curated tasting of three estate wines in a relaxed setting surrounded by vines.

As midday approaches, it’s time to explore Franschhoek’s town centre, known as the culinary capital of South Africa.

Whether you’re drawn to a cosy café, a gourmet deli, or the bustling market, this is your chance to indulge in a leisurely lunch; perhaps a farm-fresh charcuterie board, a local dish, or simply a glass of wine paired with people-watching and live music.

The final tasting of the day is at the historic Muratie Wine Estate, tucked into the serene Knorhoek Valley.

Dating back to 1685, this character-rich estate is a step back in time.

Here you can enjoy a port-style wine tasting in Muratie’s original cellars, where the thick stone walls and stained glass windows are almost as interesting as the wines. You’ll even sample wines served from the same tanks used in the earliest days of Cape winemaking, including South Africa’s first Pinot Noir.

It’s a fitting and atmospheric close to a day of indulgence in the Cape Winelands.

Note: Winery visits and tram routes may vary depending on the day’s availability, but rest assured, thoughtfully chosen alternatives will be offered where necessary.
